Love is truly all you need

angel_outline_autism_ribbon_pc_md_wmHello and welcome to our blog!

My name is Meredith and I am a mom to two beautiful non-verbal Autistic angels one of whom is Sarah, she is 9 years old, and we started this blog as a way for her to get out the message that she wants others to receive. Sarah and I have developed a supported writing technique that allows for her to be able to now have a voice and she has a lot to say!

S: “God wants me to be a beacon of light through Autism. Many think Autism is a curse. We are here to show you how to love again. I want all parents and grandparents to love all great beings in Autism. Be loving towards all. God is very good daddy and wants you to be happy. ”

M: Do you want to state what Autism is to the world?

S: “Yes. Each and every case brings something new to that family and we are going to each bring great lessons. Yes.”

M: Why do you feel that it is happening in such a big way right now?

S: “Because now is a big need. World is very dark and Autism brings all back to light.”

M: Do you have anything to say to those who feel like they struggle in it? Parents or others who see the kids struggle?

S: “None can have been bad children enough to hurt. Do not hurt your babies.”

M: Do you have any words of wisdom to help them understand the kids better?

S: “Yes. Be doing best you can to help. Yes. And don’t worry about yourself so much. You are Earth bound now, but not forever. You need not worry for things of now. Be at peace and let go of very self-serving ways.”

Sarah writes to us that this is her purpose in the world, to bring about the awareness and acceptance of the special mission that these beautiful people hold.

Sarah said that I can also share a few of my own tidbits to this blog post, from the perspective of Mommy as she said they may help others out there. These are just some fundamental things that I have learned during my own journey, they may be basic, but beneficial for sure.

-Not for a moment, do not ever assume that there isn’t something going on inside your kids who can’t talk or can’t communicate with you in the most reliable way, because there is, something there, and it’s awesome.

-Do not let fear guide your actions, because it will steer you off course, every time.

-If you pray or meditate well then do it and if you don’t well start because God & His messengers are there to guide you in every part of your life, I promise.

I also have a checklist, my daily reminders. This checklist is not only for parents and caregivers of those with Autism, No this is universal.

  1. LOVE. MOST IMPORTANT, if you don’t do any of the other things on this list, then please for your sake do this one. I know most of you will say, I do love my kids, but I’m saying LOVE your kids every single day as hard and big as you can. Love every single thing about them, the weird, the strange, the hard, the soft, the crying, the laughter, all of it, this alone will change your life. Love them exactly the way they are, without trying to change them, without trying to put them into a mold, without worrying about the future or the past, or milestones, just love them, right here and now.
  2. Breathe. This is a no brainer, I know, but you would be surprised how often we hold our breath. Things will change, so no matter the situation, no matter how much it sucks, it will change, so just breathe. This will take the serious edge off, definitely a priority.
  3. Laugh. Don’t take things too seriously, do yourself a favor and laugh, every single day, Life is a gift and a blessing and meant to be enjoyed. Learn to laugh at yourself and at every situation. If your child is coming to you with both socks on one foot and you have shown them how to do this at least 25 times, just laugh and show them again.
  4. Have Compassion. Have compassion not only for your kids but for yourself and everyone you encounter. For your kids, because they go through a lot every day, their world is hard, remember that when you are seeing them meltdown and all you want to do is get them to stop, remember compassion. For yourself in all that you do every day, endlessly, striving to make things the best you can, you are human, accept your faults, remember compassion. For everyone else, for they too have their own things they’re going through and even though that lady at the grocery store so rudely pushed your cart out of her way, she may be going through things that you know nothing about, remember compassion.
  5. Be At Peace. Now this one is from Sarah, this is the thing she writes to me every single day of my life. I know there are some smiles that will come to your face, this is a hard one, I struggle to do it daily and quite often I fail, but try it every day, it will come and Your life as a Mother, Father, Caregiver, Grandparent, etc., will open up wide for you and the true miracles will begin to happen.
  6. Have Patience. This is also one from Sarah as she is often asking me to “Have patience with me” They struggle, these unique individuals and patience is probably one of our greatest lessons on this journey. Sometimes it’s going to take you 50 times to show them how to do something, just endure, the pay-off is huge.
  7. Lastly, Don’t worry. I know hahaha good one right? This is another almost daily reminder that Sarah gives me, she writes “God does not want you to worry”. Besides, does worrying help the situation at all? Um, No, it does nothing but make you miserable. I asked Sarah, “Do you worry about your future with all the challenges that you have?” and she says “No God is watching over me”. I can’t argue with this, I just hope one day that I can be as great and faithful and steadfast a person as her. As both of my kids are.

So we leave you there and say Thank you for sharing this space with us and Sarah hopes that these writings of hers brings God’s love, light, and understanding into the world.

I want to invite everyone to send in any questions that you may have for Sarah or myself and any topics of interest that you would like discussed on this podcast to Our email address which is
